Award Winners 2013-14

Sixty-nine Texas schoolchildren were approved for a Matching Scholarship of tuition units worth up to $1,500 in the program's 2013-14 award cycle. Twelve of the top-ranking applicants were also recognized with an additional scholarship — the Promise Scholarship, which is a one-time grant of tuition units worth $2,000 at today's prices and does not have a matching component.

The Texas Match the Promise Foundation℠ provided a match for up to $500 of participant tuition unit purchases. Scholarship recipients with a family income of $75,000 or less received a three-to-one match, and all other scholarship recipients received a one-to-one match.

Career Choices

The scholarship application asked students to write about the careers they hope to pursue. While they described a wide variety of future professions — from music to law enforcement — health careers and related technical occupations were the most common choices, identified by 19 applicants (12 girls and seven boys). Ten students (all boys) want to pursue careers in architecture and engineering. Other popular career choices include education, training and library sciences.
