Need a soft launch back into the workforce? The Comptroller's new Returnship Program is geared toward people who want to transition back into regular employment.
Our Returnship Program is a paid, full-time, 13-week work assignment for professionals re-entering the workforce after being away from work for two years or more.
This structured program can help accelerate the transition back to work, reactivate professional skills and even lead to a full-time position at the agency (based on performance and job availability).
As the state's chief financial officer, the Comptroller’s office manages funds for the world's 10th largest economy, but it is much more than a taxing entity. Learn about the wide array of programs our agency administers.

If you meet these criteria, we invite you to apply.
I had been a stay-at-home mom for six years and was ready to return to the workforce. I knew the stigma behind the work gap was not in my favor when applying for jobs. I was overwhelmed with anxiety at the thought of seeking a position I knew I was fully qualified for and knowing there was a big possibility I would get overlooked because of the gap in my employment history. Some are understanding, others not so much.
When I heard about the Returnship Program, I knew I had to apply as quickly as possible. It is not often we are given the opportunity to have paid training while working part-time. This fit with my home schedule and helped my family adjust to me returning to the workforce. I distinctly remember getting the call from Talent Acquisition staff and hearing the genuine happiness in his voice when he told me that I got selected for one of the positions. The entire process — from onboarding to being introduced to my section — was very amicable. The training and mentoring I received from leadership were immeasurable. I am proud to now be a full-time employee with the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and look forward to my career here.
I decided to retire in 2021 during the pandemic. I was able to be there for my family and my aunt when she got sick. After her passing, it took another year before I decided I needed to return to work. It had been more than two years, so I decided to apply for the Returnship Program.
When I received the call for an interview I was overjoyed. I took it that if selected, I was meant to go back to work, and if not, then it wasn’t my time to return to work. After days of not knowing, I received a call saying I got the position. I knew it would be a great opportunity. I knew the Returnship program was only part-time for 12 weeks, but this would allow me to transition back into the workforce. After the Returnship position ended, I was offered a full-time position, and I decided to take the offer of a full-time position. Working at the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts has given me new challenges and allowed me to meet people.
