Award Winners 2012-13

Sixty Texas schoolchildren won a Matching Scholarship of tuition units worth up to $1,000 in the program's 2012-13 award cycle. The Texas Match the Promise Foundation℠ provided a two-to-one match for up to $500 of participant tuition unit purchases.

Twelve of the top-ranking applicants were also recognized with an additional scholarship — the Promise Scholarship, which is a one-time grant of tuition units worth $2,000 at today's prices, and does not have a matching component.

Career Choices

The scholarship application asked students to write about the careers they hope to pursue. While they described a wide variety of future professions, from music to law enforcement, health careers were the most common choice, selected by 20 applicants (16 girls and four boys). Thirteen students (six girls and seven boys) want careers in the literary, performing and graphic arts. Other popular career choices include engineering, teaching and architecture.
