My name is Ryleigh and I have dreams to enter the world of equine veterinarian medicine. An equine veterinarian is a person who provides medical care for horses. A couple of things they do are vaccinations, drawing blood, and post-surgical follow ups.

I have always had a bond with animals but what made me want to enter this field of study was a personal experience with one of my own horses, my horse Parcady became ill. Sadly he passed, but the veterinarians did everything in their power to try to save him and that inspired me to want to do the same for others.

I became even more interested in this field and knew it was my calling after I visited the Equine Center and loved that the veterinarian staff worked hard to improve the quality of life for the horses in their care.

In order to become an equine veterinarian it will take an abundance of hard work along with a college degree. After I achieve a college degree I will then need to attend veterinarian school and obtain a licensure. After I obtain a licensure, I will need to complete an internship or residency program under the supervision of a licensed physician. In addition to all of these requirements, equine veterinarians must have manual dexterity, which is the ability to use their hands well.

The opportunities that equine veterinarians will have in the future, in my opinion, are to help heal and cure horses along with building skills in decision making, management, communication and problem solving.
