The Texas Comptroller’s office recognizes that with expanded broadband services come expanded risks and potential new threats to audiences who may not have previously faced them. That’s why the Comptroller’s office supports the R.E.A.L. Friends Don’t campaign, an initiative of the McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University.
The campaign includes resources and physical billboards that arm parents and caregivers with simple, actionable tools to help kids navigate their online experiences and protect them from harmful relationships and exploitation. The campaign’s goals align with those of the Comptroller’s Broadband Development Office (BDO) and the Governor’s Broadband Development Council (GBDC). Keeping kids safe online and away from potentially dangerous content or individuals is one of our shared goals.
Comptroller Glenn Hegar and Texas First Lady Cecilia Abbot talk about the importance of protecting kids online.
