The 19-county Alamo region covers about 18,000 square miles in south central Texas, stretching from Fredericksburg and Kerrville in the Hill Country to Port Lavaca on the Gulf Coast.
The region includes two metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs): the San Antonio-New Braunfels MSA, which includes Atascosa, Bandera, Bexar, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina and Wilson counties, and the Victoria MSA, which includes Calhoun, Goliad and Victoria counties.
The Alamo region experienced rapid population gains between 2010 and 2020, outpacing statewide gains. Comal County led regional gains during this period at 48.9 percent, followed by gains of 32.5 percent in Kendall County and 31.3 percent in Guadalupe County.

Alamo region employment rose by nearly 17 percent between 2010 and 2020, about on par with statewide growth. The most concentrated regional industries include jobs in pipeline transportation of natural gas, support activities for mining and national security. These industries have a high location quotient (LQ). An LQ of 1.25 or higher indicates the industry is highly concentrated and unique to the regional economy. The warehousing and storage industry led regional job growth, increasing by 142 percent between 2015 and 2020.
Employment growth in the Alamo region grew by 16.5%, compared to Texas at 17.1% and the U.S. at 7.8%.
