The region’s population grew at a very rapid pace between 2012 to 2022, led by gains of almost 60 percent in Hays County, 47 percent in Williamson County and 42 percent in Bastrop County.
About 1.2 million people are employed in the region. Regional employment rose by 46.4 percent between 2012 and 2022, almost four times the national growth. Technology-related industries and urban and rural transportation are some of the region’s most concentrated industries as measured by location quotient (LQ). An LQ of 1.25 or higher indicates the region has a competitive advantage in the industry. Warehousing and storage and data processing/web hosting led regional industry job growth.
The number of jobs in the Capital Region increased 46.4%, in Texas 23.5% and in the U.S. 13.9%.
