The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is a federal income tax credit available for working people with low to moderate income.
If you work and your family made less than $63,400 in 2023, you may qualify for EITC. The credit amount you receive depends on your marital status, the amount of your earned income and the number of children you have. To claim this credit, you must file a federal income tax return, even if you do not owe any tax and are not required to file a return.
For more information about the requirements for claiming this credit, visit the IRS EITC website.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free assistance to help qualifying people prepare their federal income tax returns.
For more information about the VITA program, visit the IRS VITA website.
The Comptroller offers several publications in both English and Spanish about the EITC and the VITA program. Employers can download, reproduce and distribute these publications to their employees.
