Opioid Resources

The opioid crisis in Texas is one that reaches many of us. In 2021, fentanyl was linked to almost 1,700 fatal overdoses across the state. For 2022, DSHS reported provisional data for 1,428 fentanyl-related deaths through Oct. 31. But help and resources are available and are continuing to be developed across the state.

State agencies are mobilizing to provide additional resources and strategies to tackle to challenges associated with the opioid and fentanyl crisis. State agency resources and summaries of services are listed below.

One in four Texans has experienced an opioid overdose or knows someone who has. The Texas Targeted Opioid Response (TTOR) is a public health initiative with a mission to save lives and provide lifelong support to Texans with opioid and stimulant use disorders by expanding access to prevention, integrated treatment and recovery support services. HHSC established TTOR in May 2017 with funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).

The Texas Workforce Commission, in partnership with the Office of the Governor and other state agencies, launched a collaborative awareness campaign to address the growing fentanyl crisis. The unified effort revolves around a simple message: #OnePillKills. TWC's multi-channel messaging campaign, aimed at employers, employees, families, and service providers, offers facts, highlights the impact and provides access to resources to be aware and be prepared.
