My career of interest is being a gluten-free and vegan baker to accommodate people with different food intolerances and allergies that are not serviced at this time especially in lower population areas. This is partially important to me since I have had to be on a gluten-free diet since kindergarten. Choices are not always available for me at restaurants and grocery stores in the smaller area I live in.
Therefore, I would like to open my own gluten-free, vegan bakery to service people with these limited options. To have a successful bakery, I plan on going to college to major in business. I would go to a four year college and my degree would be Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance. This degree would help me be an effective business owner because finances will make or break the business. If there is not a business plan and smart money decisions, the business will fail.
The future for this career looks bright. According to the FARE, Food Allergy Research & Education, website, "Researchers estimate that up to 15 million Americans have food allergies, including 5.9 million children under age 18. Although allergies to milk, egg, wheat and soy often resolve in childhood, children appear to be outgrowing some of these allergies more slowly than in previous decades." This information encourages me with my career choice because of so many Americans struggling with food allergies or intolerances. Some of these Americans are in the same boat as I, limited choices because of geographic location. I would hope that my bakery could help alleviate the limited number of choices they have.
In writing this essay, I was able to research degrees available at the local college and learned more about food allergies and intolerances.
