Carlos – future software developer

I love technology so much that I taught myself PowerPoint when I was in 4th grade. I am always trying to figure out how things work and also enjoy creating new inventions. Computers, in particular, are incredibly fascinating to me. I am quite skilled in advanced features of several different computer programs and am really looking forward to developing more math and computer science skills in both high school and college.

To be successful as a software developer, one must be both creative and an excellent problem solver. This is one of the hottest growing fields, which makes sense, as society is becoming more and more technologically savvy. My parents grew up in a world with no cell phones and very archaic computers. In today's society, it is not uncommon to see toddlers playing games on computer tablets or seeing elderly people using several different apps on their cell phones. More and more apps seem to be coming out to make life not only easier but more fun and exciting. Software developers help make it possible for people to do their banking online, choose various ring tones, play fun on-line games and stay organized.

A typical day as a software developer can consist of writing code, finding bugs in software, improving existing programs and working with other developers to solve complex issues. The education required for this field varies but the most basic requirement is a bachelor's degree in computer science. Understanding algorithms, and computer languages is very important but experience working on interesting coding projects, such as during an internship, better help one get hired.
