I would like to be a dentist because I want to help others with their smiles like my mom. I get to see my mom work as a dentist and I still like what I see after all of these years. Whenever I go to watch my mom in the dental office, I think in my head that could be me. I enjoy working with and helping people. As a dentist I could work with all ages of people and help them fix their teeth each day. I enjoy working with my hands and fixing things. In dentistry there are a lot of neat tools, technologies, and materials I would enjoy working with. I like the art classes I take at school. My mom always tells me there is a real art to creating beautiful smiles. Lots of different shading and color techniques are required as well as molding and shaping many different restorations. I especially enjoy my math and advanced science classes in school. I like to listen to my mom's continuing education classes and hear how the same math and science concepts I learn about can come together to create beautiful works of art in each patient’s mouth.
To become a dentist, I would like to go to Texas A&M University and earn a bachelor's degree in biomedical science. This program meets all of the prerequisites I would need to apply to dental school. I would need to complete four years of dental school to obtain my doctorate of dental surgery degree. I was pleased to discover in my research of careers that new opportunities for dentists are very likely in the future. I look forward to continuing my education so I can help people smile for a lifetime.
