I Want To Be A Spanish Teacher
(Yo Quiero Ser un Maestro de espanol)

Joshua – future Spanish teacher

My name is Joshua and I want to be a Spanish teacher and teach English as a second language. I would like to be a Spanish teacher because I enjoy learning Spanish in class at school. My Spanish teacher tells me that I have a gift for language. Because there is a need for foreigners to speak English, I would like to teach English as a second language. Many people who come from Mexico and Spain do not speak English. In fact, 72% of immigrants in the U.S. say that learning English is essential (thehuffingtonpost.com). To teach Spanish, training in every subject is needed, but I will need extensive training in Spanish. The Hispanic population is growing in the United States, so students will need Spanish-speaking skills to speak with Hispanics. In fact, 38% of the population of Texas is Hispanic (pewreasearch.org). The current need for teachers who teach English as a second language is extremely high. "Districts across the U.S. are facing difficulties stemming from the small percentages of bilingual/ESL teachers relative to the growing number of culturally and linguistically diverse students" (languagemagazine.com). To learn about teaching, I observe how people teach and when teachers make learning fun for the students. I practice teaching by teaching friends and family about technology and board games. To learn about Spanish, I took five years of Latin courses. In fact, my average in Latin is 97%. I have taken Spanish courses since the first grade and learned many things about the language. I enjoy practicing Spanish with my parents and Spanish friends. In conclusion, I would like to become a Spanish teacher because I enjoy learning and speaking Spanish. I can also use my Spanish speaking skills to teach English as a second language.
