Software development and design is one of the most rapidly expanding fields in the country, with a seventeen percent increase expected over the next ten years. This kind of job will require experts in its field, and workers who are smart and innovative. I am interested in this field, because I have had a long history with technology and computer applications. For all these reasons and more, I am pursuing a career as a software designer, and will achieve this goal with education, internships, and determination.
To become a software designer, I will have to take the right steps in the education path I choose. I am currently attending a high school magnet program that specializes in design and technology. I am taking computer science pre-AP to learn how to code and program, and digital art and media to learn design on a computer. After high school, I hope to attend a well-rounded college such as the University of Texas at Austin. To help achieve my goal, I also plan on internships outside of school to expand my knowledge in the field. Having an internship would not only give me real life experience, but will help me get the major and job I want.
As software development is very fast growing, many new job opportunities have been sprouting up all over the country. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs for software developers was 1,114,000 as of last year. The pay is about forty-eight dollars per hour on average at a starting level position. This information shows a very positive job outlook with a high stable wage. In conclusion, software development is a promising career in which I can thrive and make a difference.
