When I grow up I would like to be a veterinarian. I love animals of all types. I want to be a vet because I think it would be fun to work with animals. I want to work with small animals like bunnies, ferrets , cats, dogs and maybe pigs. I want to check on the animals and make sure they stay healthy.
To be a veterinarian you need to have an undergraduate degree and complete a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M. or V.M.D.). I would also have to have board certification and a state license. Currently, I am in my first year as a 4-H Vet Science club member. Veterinarians make an average of $98,230 a year and the job outlook through 2022 is 12%.
Veterinary medical colleges require students to take many science classes, including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, zoology, microbiology, and animal science. Some important qualities to have include: compassion, decision making skills, interpersonal skills, manual dexterity, and problem solving skills. I already use a few of these skills in the care of my dogs and cat.
I could work in San Antonio or Houston for the Spay Neuter Assistance Program, Inc.(SNAP). I would work there because they help suffering dogs and cats. They also help homeless and neglected animals and will carry out the goal until there is a world without homeless pets.
You have to have a lot of education to be a vet. I would like to work with animals because it would be fun and I would know a lot. I would need a few of skills and take a lot of classes.
