My dream is to become a veterinarian because I adore animals. We had a 3 year old black lab named Romeo who died suddenly of cancer on Thanksgiving Day last year. Losing him made me very sad. I would like to become a veterinarian so that I can keep other families from experiencing the loss that we suffered with Romeo by finding a cure for cancer in animals, especially dogs.

The job prospect for veterinarians in the future is amazing! According to the website: http//www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/veterinarians.htm, "employment of veterinarians is projected to grow 9 percent from 2014 to 2024, faster than the average for all occupations. Candidates should expect very strong competition for available veterinarian positions, especially in companion animal care."

My mother is a single mom and can't afford to send me to college. In order to become a veterinarian, I need your help. The educational requirements include a bachelor's degree, a master's degree and ultimately a doctorate degree in veterinary medicine (DVM) along with a state license to practice medicine. My mom is a Longhorn but my dream is to become an Aggie and get my doctorate at Texas A & M School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Bryan College Station, TX.

According to http://vetmed.tamu.edu/dvm/future/prerequisites, prior to applying to the program I would need to have completed 56 hours of prerequisite course work by the end of the Spring semester before enrollment and completed or be enrolled in Organic Chemistry I, Physics I and Biochemistry I.

Steps that I took to learn about my career choice include talking to various veterinarians, doing research on the internet and looking into the eyes of my amazing animal babies.

Please help me become the real Doc McStuffins. I want to save lives.
