The Road to be a Principal

I would like to be a school principal when I grow up. I want to be a principal because I like children. I enjoy talking and interacting with them. I also see how principals manage things and keep things in order around the campus. If it wasn't for good leaders like principals in schools, things would be disorganized and chaotic.

A principal is the primary leader in a school, who establishes a culture of high expectations and belongingness for every child, staff member, and parent. A principal is a fearless individual who is always at the heart of the matter-children. The principal is responsible for the overall administration and operation of the school in a manner consistent with local policies and federal guidelines. Further, the principal oversees the implementation of the district priorities, educational and development of the school plan, and is responsible for the educational welfare of students.

My aunt went to college to become a principal. Principals work in public and private elementary, middle, and high schools. Most principals work year round. To become a principal you would typically need a Master's degree in education administration or leadership. Some principals are hired with only a bachelor's degree in education, while others have a doctoral degree. Most principal positions require candidates to have prior work experience as a teacher. My aunt told me, "In order to be a good principal a person must have strong leadership skills and be willing to serve others". Continuing education courses will also be required to maintain their state license.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary is $88,380. The projected growth until 2022 is six percent. Basically, for every 100 principals there will six more jobs available. I think this would be an excellent career to choose because every school must have a good principal to be successful.
