If you purchase an existing business and the previous owner owes taxes to the Comptroller's office, you will be held liable for the taxes owed by the previous owner.
A certificate stating the amount due or that no tax is due may be obtained in the following manner. The seller, the seller's assignee, or purchaser must make a written request for the certificate before the sale of the business is completed. See Section (e) of Rule 3.7 for complete information.
