Texas GDP on the world stage Climbing global economic ranks

If Texas were a country, it would be the eighth-largest economy in the world,

ahead of Canada and even Russia. In 2022, Texas’ gross domestic product (GDP) — the total market value of all finished goods and services — totaled $2.4 trillion. Texas keeps climbing the world economic ranks; only a decade ago, it was the 12th-largest economy.

Comparing GDP among the 12 Comptroller-designated economic regions produces additional insights that demonstrate the state’s economic might.

In 2022, the $709 billion economy in the Metroplex, the state’s most populous region, was larger than Poland’s. Likewise, the Gulf Coast region’s economy — at $642.1 billion in 2022 — exceeded that of Argentina.

Note: GDP measured in current dollars. U.S. ranked No. 1.
